about us
Performing Arts Institute (InSzPer or Instytut Sztuk Performatywnych) is a culture organization aiming at interdisciplinary and international development of socially engaged art. The goal of InSzPer is to create a space for artistic work, free from institutional violence and developing zero waste practices in the cultural sphere.
Our understanding of the idea of art-institution ecology is taking care of the quality of relationships, while building mutual respect for the effort and time spent at work, and avoiding wasting resources in human and non-human relationships. This includes the development of a collective working model in which supportive, creative feedback plays an important role.
InSzPer is also a response to the institutional crisis resulting from mounting contradictions between new directions of artistic practices and the present-day art-production system. The institute intends to provide inspiring and safe working conditions open to an exchange of ideas, practices and experiences.
Large-scale international cooperation plays a special role in the work of InSzPer. The institute is a space enabling a dialogue between Polish and foreign artists; focusing on independent thinking, it opens the way for non-obvious alliances.
InSzPer is developing the project of an international house for art work in Warsaw – a space where artists from the performative arts broadly understood will receive space, time and substantive support, not only needed for creating a new piece of art, but also for developing their practice and building relation with their public(s). In such a house, artists from Warsaw, from across Poland and from abroad will be given the opportunity to meet and exchange their ideas and their practice, and to share inspirations.
Behind this concept of the new InSzPer are Michał Buszewicz, Marta Keil, Grzegorz Reske, Anna Smolar, Weronika Szczawińska and Piotr Wawer Jr. – the collective's members who manage the associated foundation.
